Sailor Moon CCG | Origins Award (2000) Best Trading Card Game
A slightly expanded photo gallery of some hard to find Sailor Moon cards, along with the super rare 9-card promo sets that were distributed in regular Sailor Moon trading cards. I’m fortunate enough to own every card from the Base set (160 cards) and the rarer Past and Future set (70 cards) and the chase promos from the regular trading cards.
For those that never heard of this, the game plays similarly like Pokemon, except you have to maintain your Scout zone and a Monster zone. You can build your decks to focus on a balance of both zones, or focus more on your Monsters and less on your Scouts, or vice versa. You can enhance either one with Items like Luna Ball or with characters from the TV show like Melvin or Artemis.
Instead of “evolving” like Pokemon, there is a level-up system with each Scout and each Monster. The most popular card to own similar to a Charizard is Neo-Queen Serenity.
The best part about the game is you get to play Rock-Paper-Scissors against your friends to resolve powerful effects, or Jan-Kan-Pon for the Anime purists out there. You might remember that Pokemon heavily uses coin flipping, so Sailor Moon has it’s own random mechanic. It really sets the tone of the games and reminding us why we love the quirky Anime to begin with.
Finding these cards might be an issue since it’s been a decade since they were last printed, and the first expansion boosters are next to impossible to find for a good price. I’m sure there’s conventions out there that do sell these at pretty good reasonable prices and I highly recommend you guys to try it out if you’ve played Pokemon before or if it’s your first collectable card game.
